Policies

  • Session Policies
    • Scheduled sessions are 1 hour long at minimum and may be in increments of 15 minutes (quarter hour) thereafter.
    • If a scheduled session goes over slightly due to finishing a question time will not be added but going 15+ minutes over a scheduled session will be charged accordingly.
    • [Group rates] are charged to each individual student for that planned session and must be for the same tier.  For example, two students working on Geometry at the same time.
  • Communication Policy
    • Email will be used as the initial and primary method of communication unless otherwise agreed upon.
    • Emails collected by Nova Math will be used for direct communication and coordination
    • Emails and other personal information will not be distributed or shared unless required by law.
  • Cancellation Notice
    • 24-hour notice is required to avoid any cancellation fees.
    • Any sessions cancelled within 24 hours are subject to a 50% cancellation fee for the planned session.
    • If no cancellation notice is given, then the cancellation fee will be the amount of the full planned session.  This is to discourage students from booking slots and then not using them while also make them unavailable for other students.
  • Payment
    • Payment for sessions will be expected within 10 days of receiving an invoice for past sessions. Failure to fulfill the invoice(s) may result in preventing future sessions.
    • Invoice(s) are sent via PayPal so a proper email address is needed unless in-person payment has been agreed upon beforehand.
    • Update: I have created a Venmo account to aid in easy access for parents to directly pay for their session(s).
  • Zoom
    • Online sessions will be done with the Zoom client.  Please be sure to have the most updated version of Zoom which can be found HERE.  Rooms within Zoom will use the waiting room feature to ensure the correct students are in the room at their appropriate time(s).  This also helps deter uninvited entries into sessions and keeps the focus on the material.
  • Homework
    • Homework can be assigned if requested but is not mandatory for sessions.  If homework is assigned, please ensure it is completed to ensure the pace of the session(s).  This applies only to homework assigned during sessions and is separate from homework assigned in school.
  • Summer Policies
    • Hours bought in bulk will be at a discount, but must be used during the summer period.
    • Any hours not used during the summer period will not be refunded.
    • Hours purchased in bulk will reflect the tier of subject(s) initially discussed. Using the sessions for other tiers will result in proper adjustment of hours remaining from bulk purchase(s).

What can you expect from me during a session?

  • You can expect that I will act in a friendly and professional capacity.  I take my time in learning the names of all my students and try to get to know them so that I understand which method(s) they prefer when completing work but also learning/mastering new concepts.
  • I will do my best within the time of the session to answer any questions students may have regarding their work or topics covered at school.
  • I will engage my students so that they are not simply doing “busy work”.  It was not fun for me as a student and I see no reason why it would be fun for today’s students.
  • I will be honest about my depth/breadth of knowledge.  I do not know everything about every topic.  That said I will acknowledge my absence of knowledge and work with students by discovering that knowledge together.
  • I will challenge students whenever appropriate.  Simply doing homework is the baseline for a class, but mastery of material can carry over into other aspects of life.  Making connections from the classroom to the outside world is helpful in explaining why certain topics are covered in the classroom.
  • I will communicate with parents after a session is completed. This will either be reflected in an email, in-person discussion, or in the comments section of an invoice.

What do I expect from students?

  • I expect students to come to each session ready to learn and to have questions at the ready.
  • Sessions are most productive when there is dialog back and forth rather than one side dominating the conversation.
  • I expect students to be honest with their progress in school so that I can help them to the fullest and be honest with the progress of their homework to ensure all necessary material is covered.
  • In group sessions, I expect students to be patient with me as I work with their peers.  I do my best to balance each session when working with multiple students, but some topics take more focus than others.

What can you not expect from me during a session?

  • I will not complete your student’s homework/project for school.
  • I will not take any examination on their behalf as it violates every honor code in the academic world.  I wish to lead by example for my students and so I will hold them accountable as I would myself as a student.
  • I will not guarantee a specific grade/mark for their tests/exams as many variables come into play for testing, even more with the current pandemic, but I will do my best to limit those variables come test day.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask me for more information.
